Faced with today’s many societal changes (ecological crisis, climate change, geopolitical tensions, employment, etc.), all industrial sectors must learn to adapt. Because electronic innovation is the key to tomorrow’s complex technologies, it can help us overcome these societal challenges. The French government has established a strategy for the electronics sector based on three essential pillars: territories, education, and decarbonization.

Supporting the reindustrialization of French territories

In order to improve our electronics industry, it is essential to accelerate its relocation to France.

The concepts of reindustrialization and territories are now intrinsically entwined. Local institutions are driving the relocation of numerous industries to France through various schemes; these industries will then serve the development the country’s economic and social network in order to achieve the objective of full employment.

❝ The role of these institutions is to create bridges between companies, training and research centers in order to energize our territory.

Christelle Morançais
Chairwoman of the Pays de la Loire Regional Council

In France, the electronics sector accounts for almost 300,000 jobs and €15 billion in revenue. This sector alone generates 80,000 direct jobs, 170,000 indirect jobs and 8,000 positions for public researchers.

The industrial influence of the newly opened SYMBIOSE factory extends not only to the municipality of Beaupréau-en-Mauges, but also to the entire Pays de la Loire region. This region was named a Territoire d’Industries – or “Industrial Territory” – under the France 2030 recovery plan.

The France 2030 investment plan fully supports this project for its indisputable contribution to the development of training and job creation throughout the territory.

The sector dedicated to electronics assembly represents 25,000 jobs in the Pays de la Loire region alone.

The share of direct and indirect jobs created in France in this sector continues to grow, and more than 18,000 jobs will be available in the coming years.

The sector must now become and remain engaging if it is to attract the electronics professionals of the future.

Promoting training and skills in electronics jobs

To address these challenges, the industry must reinvent itself. The new reality of these careers is no longer comparable to the harsh working conditions that once tarnished this industry’s reputation.

The modernization of equipment and implementation of innovations in this cutting-edge industrial sector have completely transformed the quality of working conditions for employees.

In order to give insights to young talents on how electronics affect their everyday life as well as the diversity of professions available in this sector, the Electronics Industry Strategic Committee launched the “Smart Electronics” program.

This program is designed to guide young recruits towards one of the many existing professional sectors and train them for the industrial positions of tomorrow.

Support from the Pays de la Loire region and local authorities is essential to achieving this ambition.

By doubling the number of vocational high schools and apprenticeships between 2017 and 2022, the objective was to create specialized technical sectors to train young people to fill all the positions that will soon be created.

The opening of an electronics assembly plant such as the SYMBIOSE factory in France is also an opportunity for younger generations to train for these new positions.

Supporting the decarbonization of our electronics industry

The electronics sector is based on fundamental trends that aim to overcome major societal challengessuch as the ecological transition, sustainable development and the digital transition for a more connected world.

❝ Electronic innovation is the key to the complex technologies of tomorrow and can provide an element of response in dealing with the societal challenges of our time, such as mobility, connectivity and, of course, decarbonization.

Roland Lescure
Minister Delegate for Industry

In this context, the electronics industry must transition to a greener and more digitized industry as quickly as possible. This is now possible thanks to the deployment of cutting-edge technologies, robotization and the automation of our production processes.

The government hopes to help the industry move towards greater energy conservation. The decarbonization objectives set by the French government under the France 2030 plan are accompanied by a 10% reduction in energy consumption for the entire industry.

Thanks to the modernity of its equipment, and its governance committed to optimizing resource management, LACROIX has already achieved a reduction in its energy consumption of approximately 30% at its new SYMBIOSE site.

The future of the electronics sector is bright, thanks to its ability to continually reinvent itself and adapt to the challenges of its time. Bolstered by the government’s strategy for the electronics sector in the context of the France 2030 plan, this industry now has the proper support to transform itself once again in order to rise to the challenges of tomorrow.
